Artist Deborah Gerosa of Colours and Shapes of My Heart Art Collection Deborah Gerosa is a self-taught artist, and creator of the "Colours and Shapes of My Heart Art Collection." The title of her collection reveals her poetic soul and passion for painting. She describes her art as raw, undefined, and a bit abstract. The official website for her artwork is "dgartexperience.com." Her Etsy shop address is http://www.etsy.com/shop/ColoursandShapes. She chose Etsy.com as a means to expose her work to the larger public. Life, love, culture, spirituality, and community inspire her the most. Talent runs in Ms. Gerosa's family. When she was a little girl she came across her father's drawings. His creativity demonstrated human potential. She was inspired to draw too. Her loved ones supported her artistic endeavors. Armed with support and belief in her work, she's given her art away as gifts to loved ones and as donations to charitable events. Her upbringing, culture, and history have everything to do with the subjects she paints. Many artists blossom over time just like flowers. This artist was in her early 40s when she made the transition from drawing into painting. She was urged to paint by a relative who admired her sketches. Recognizing Ms. Gerosa's raw potential, this relative commissioned her to create a wall painting. This was quite a leap from drawing. But the vote of confidence planted a seed. Some time after, she watched a PBS episode of Artist Bob Ross illustrating beautiful landscapes through oil. His effortless strokes made the activity so appealing. Ms. Gerosa heard a voice inside her say, "I think you can do that." A few days later she purchased watercolors for experimentation. Watercolors proved to be the most difficult medium to control, but she was not discouraged. She continued to experiment and found acrylics to be the most compatible with her art. Ms. Gerosa agreed to the commission, and purchased a canvas and instructional book to aid her in completing the project. Her family member (customer) loved it! And Ms. Gerosa never looked back. Ms. Gerosa continues to paint during her free time. In the future, she would like to attend art classes for further development. Different forms of expression fascinate her. When she paints, she enjoys a pleasant sound in the background like a song or a movie. Her bases are canvas and watercolor paper, and her mediums include oil, acrylic, and gouache. Taking bold steps forward, she's grown as an artist. "I like to say, painting discovered me. What is so great, is I'm learning, and discovering more, and more about painting. The process of art, expression, and the spiritual impact it has on those who enjoy seeing my work. This is truly a moving experience for me." Art has made many contributions to her life. Her fanbase encourage her to create more. Consequently, she expresses herself freely and creatively. When asked about competition in the art world, Ms. Gerosa explained that competition is inescapable so we should not fear it. The talents of others does not take away from her talent. Instead, she relishes her time with other artists. "There is so much to learn from the art community." Art can be interpreted in multiple ways. That is why she focuses on the joy and lessons in art. For instance, she learned not to take rejection personally because art can attract various reactions. On the bright side, she reminds us that "there is something out there for everybody." Being an artist requires strength and continual evolution. She sees herself painting for the rest of her life. Often she wishes that her love affair with art began in her youth. Nevertheless, she is pleased with the way her life has bloomed.
